The Department of Statistics has been awarded a Mizzou Forward Student Success Enhancement grant to create the Undergraduate Statistics Research (USTAR) Center. The USTAR Center inspires and empowers students to explore opportunities within the field of statistics through innovative research, experiential learning, and collaborative mentorship led by faculty at the University of Missouri.

Here is a list of current and proposed research:

Current

  • R for Statistical Learning Canvas Course
  • Keno Project

Proposed

  • Learning Latex: a self-paced Canvas course
  • Power and Sample Size: using R to calculate power and sample size

Chris Wikle, Curators' Distinguished Professor; Scott Holan, department chair and professor; and Matthew McIntosh, assistant teaching professor, led efforts to create the center. The funding will renovate office space to create an inviting and collaborative environment for undergraduate statistics students. The proposed changes aim to foster a sense of community and provide necessary resources for academic and social interaction.
