Department Of Statistics

The Power of Data

Statistics is an integral part of solving our world's most complex challenges. Everything from disease prevention and public policy to sports success relies on it.

Here you'll learn how to collect, analyze, and interpret data. It's through that work that you will discover and tell the stories that reside within the quantitative information. In the world of “big data,” statisticians work to find and extract information from huge databases, such as optimal defensive shift of a baseball team given a particular batter.

Our students go on to successful careers in business, politics, science, academia, and more. Explore our website to learn much more.

Extremes Workshop

June 30 - July 2, 2025

This workshop aims to serve two complementary purposes. The first is to provide a venue to facilitate collaborations among statisticians, atmospheric and hydrological scientists to advance modeling and understanding of high-impact extreme events in the Earth climate system. The second is to introduce graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and researchers from other domains to the techniques and challenges that are unique to extreme value analysis.
